NIT PhD Admission 2024: There are about 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and 32 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in India. PhD candidates are admitted in two sessions to these prestigious research and teaching institutions. Admission for the first semester of the 2024–25 academic year is now open.
The doctorate degree known as a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) has an academic concentration. The course must be finished by candidates in no more than five or six years. The length of the course, however, could differ depending on the institute. Applicants are not permitted to enrol in a PhD study unless they hold a master’s degree. Candidates may enrol in PhD programmes in any field. In a PhD programme, candidates must choose a topic or subject, conduct extensive study on it, and respond to any questions about the topic or subject.
Prior to 2017, students had the option to pursue PhD programmes remotely. However, a UGC circular said that PhD programmes completed remotely would no longer be accepted.
Fellowships are typically granted to candidates who pass admission exams such as UGC NET, GATE, JEST, and similar ones while they are enrolled in a PhD programme. In addition, academic institutions like Delhi University (DU) and IGNOU provide fellowships to students who are enrolled full-time in their PhD programmes.
