Mandatory Additional Requirement (MAR)

Mandatory Additional Requirement

MAR 2024 – 2025

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT, WB) has introduced the Mandatory Additional Requirement (MAR) system to ensure holistic development of students beyond academic performance. This initiative mandates students to earn activity points through various extracurricular, social, and professional activities in order to be eligible for their undergraduate degrees. Initially implemented through a notice dated 11 June 2018, it has since undergone modifications, with significant revisions on 12 March 2019 and 10 June 2019. These updates aim to provide a structured and uniform distribution of activity points throughout the academic tenure of students.

MAR Guidelines

1. Yearly Distribution of Activity Points:

  • Earlier, there was no fixed distribution for activity points over the years. Under the revised guidelines, students must accumulate a minimum of 25 activity points per year to ensure a balanced workload.

2. Total Activity Points Requirement:

  • For students enrolled in a 4-year B.Tech program (from 2019-20 onwards): 100 points required.
  • For lateral entry students (joining in the 2nd year from 2019-20 onwards): 75 points required.

3. MOOCs and MAR Integration:

  • MOOCs taken for obtaining an Honors degree (20 credits for B.Tech and 16 credits for non-AICTE courses) will not be counted separately for MAR.
  • Courses completed before the implementation of MAR will not be considered for activity points.
  • Students can select MOOCs from the university-approved repository but cannot overlap them with Honours courses.
